Soka University of AmericaAliso Viejo, CA

The firm provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design services for this university campus expansion project at Soka University which consists of three buildings.

The 4-story, 91,370 SF Marie and Pierre Curie Hall (STEM building) features 19 labs, three classrooms, 26 faculty and administrative offices, 11 conference rooms and a 100-seat auditorium alongside open collaborative spaces and student workstations throughout the facility. Core lab facilities, including an aquatics lab, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), accommodate advanced research and help recruit new faculty. The building’s instructional lab modules allow for interactive teaching and hands-on learning in this open, flexible, interactive and sustainable building to support the new life sciences concentration for undergraduate students interested in biology, biomedical research, biotechnology, public health and medicine (pre-med).

The Resident Housing consists of two 4-story buildings, approximately 52,470 SF. Each hall contains 50 housing units (made up of single- and double-bedroom dormitories), meeting and social spaces, a kitchen and 24-hour study rooms and has a covered walkway connecting the two buildings.

Both proposed projects are designed to accommodate a LEED Gold Building Certification, and an exterior architectural design pallet that will respect the current design features, landscaping and cultural aspects of the campus.
